Nadya:
American designer Nadya fell in love with Bali while vacationing in 1978. By 1980, she was hiring local seamstresses to create her unique and colorful line of handmade batik and hand-painted cotton and rayon clothing, loosely based on the traditional garments of Asia.
The Nadya collection is all hand-made with natural materials, created by Balinese artisans skilled in the traditional arts of batik and ikat (a method of hand-weaving textiles). Signature styles include reversible jackets embellished with unusual beads and dazzling embroidery, separates for women, great shirts for men and an exciting selection of bags, purses, scarves and shawls.
Nadya oversees production at her home studio in Bali and makes a few trips to the United States, to sell her line at trunk shows in Washington, D.C., Boston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta and her hometown of Chicago.
Some shows are held in hotel suites, others are in people’s homes. All take place in a warm and friendly party atmosphere.
